The Ottomans had a very special card up their sleeves, canons which was of immense help in war. Gun wagons and artillery were the main weapons of defense in the army. There were four distinct forces in the army, the Janissary, Sipahi, Akinci and Mehteran. They each had a certain goal and role in the Ottoman army. The Janissaries would stand with the Sultan, Sipahis would get the enemy to the trap, which was the azaps. The Akinci group would be volunteers in a campaign.
A major conquest was that of the city of Constantinople. This was led by Mehmed II on May 29th, 1453 where they saw the Roman Empire crumble down. The conquest not only expanded the Ottoman's territory but also made the empire an empire and it was a very powerful one as well. From this conquest Mehmed II was titled "The Conqueror" as well.
